How it started.
Our journey began with a background in real estate development and home building. After scaling MN’s largest private builder and exiting in 2018, our founder transitioned into construction accounting—only to find the existing tools completely inadequate.
We founded Controllr to solve this gap, building the exact financial automation platform that the industry has been waiting for. We stopped complaining about software that sucks and started building the solution builders and accountants actually need.
Controllr provides solutions for hundreds of builders and accountants and we're just getting started. We waited around too long thinking, "someone has to be building what this industry needs". Now they finally are.
Our mission.
We believe builders and accountants should be on the same page. Our mission is to replace disconnected spreadsheets and double entry with a shared source of truth, giving construction firms control over their financials and accounting firms the scalable tools they need to grow their practice.
Controllr was born from frustration with traditional ledger and construction ERP tools that ignore the automation and financial planning & analysis needs of builders and construction accounting firms. We believe AI should handle a lot of the data entry parts of bookkeeping so humans can focus on the insights that matter.
Our mission is simple: make financial insights automated, simple, and accessible to everyone, regardless of technical background.
Our values.
The people
Meet Chris
Builder. CPA. Founder.
Chris brings nearly two decades of unique experience to Controllr. He scaled Minnesota's largest private homebuilder, exited in 2018, and obtained his MBA and CPA. Before founding Controllr, he built and scaled the construction industry's leading outsourced accounting firm—giving him the perfect vantage point to solve the financial struggles of modern builders. He’s building the tools he wished he had 5, 10, and 15 years ago.
We are a team of builders, not just tech workers. We value grit over glamour, helping users make money over Controllr raising money, and craftsmanship over speed. We’re looking for problem solvers who aren't afraid to get their hands dirty unraveling complex financial knots. At Controllr, you won’t just be an employee; you’ll be building the future of the construction and accounting industries.
